Ok, everyone wants to know what happened to the motorhome! We had a 34′ 1995 Winnebago Vectra. It was beautiful and very well maintained. We purchased it, without much consideration, from a family member of a good friend. We loved knowing where it was coming from.
After more research and thought we were concerned about a few things:
1. If the motorhome had mechanical problems, we would be tent camping with the kids and dogs until repairs could be made.
2. We learned that our beloved mini van could not be towed behind the RV unless it had all wheels up.
3. It only slept 4. The idea to convert the back bedroom to a quad bunkhouse was more expensive and complicated than we thought.
For these reasons, we decided to put the Winnebago on Craigslist and leave it up to fate. To our surprise, it was sold in two weeks.
We quickly fell in love with a 32′ Jayco travel trailer with an awesome bedroom for the kids and three slide outs. We decided to go for it, BUT… as Pete would say…”Why do you always have a big BUT?”
What was the BUT this time? It is a heavy camper and really needs a bigger engine for safe pulling. Many pick- ups would do the trick, BUT we needed three rows of seats.
After much research, there were only two vehicles that would fit our needs. A Suburban with 2500 engine or a Ford Excursion which was discontinued in 2005.
…The search was on.
So in a nutshell that is how and why we now have our travel trailer. To read about our truck dilemmas read here.
